Father’s Day food specials around Sonoma

This Father’s Day get dad what he really wants – a great meal!|

After Anna Jarvis established Mother’s Day in 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia in honor of her late mother, the first Father’s Day was celebrated on July 5, 1908 in Fairmont, West Virginia; it was a small affair when Grace Golden Clayton mourned her late father, killed in the Monongah Mining Disaster.

In 1910, Arkansas native Sonora Smart Dodd established the first “real” Father’s Day at the Spokane, Washington YMCA on June 19, thinking of her father, Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, who raised six children as a single parent in Spokane. After a break at the Art Institute of Chicago, Dodd returned to Spokane and began to promote Father’s Day nationally.

In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day, and President Richard Nixon signed the holiday into law in 1972.

Ask the father figure in your life what he would like to do - maybe sit on the couch, go on a hike, paint a picture or a house, go fishing, or go to the beach or a movie. Or you can cook his favorite meal or sweep out the garage for him. Or both.

If he wants to go out for something food related, try on these opportunities.
