Sonoma County’s Meals on Wheels delivers more than 290,000 meals per year to frail, home-bound seniors who might otherwise go without. On Saturday, May 7 the organization is hosting a Derby Day party at Glen Ellen’s Chateau St. Jean Winery to benefit the Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program.

Set for the day before Mother’s Day, the event is being billed as the perfect present for mom, featuring the chance to dress in over-the-top southern style, enjoy a four-course lunch, and sip wine in a beautiful setting.

The main event will take place on the lawn at Chateau St. Jean with a four-course lunch by notable Sonoma County chefs. The festivities will also include a live auction.

In honor of Council on Aging’s 50th anniversary celebration during 2016, Derby Day guests are being encouraged to arrive in either vintage or contemporary Derby Day attire that recalls the hats and fashions worn by racegoers at Churchill Downs — today, or in past eras.

A panel of judges will award prizes for the “best dressed” and “most creative” outfits. Everyone who attends will be invited to walk the catwalk to show off their outfits in an informal fashion show.

Tickets are $250 each, or $2,500 for a table of 10 and are available at councilonaging.com/derbyday.

The Council on Aging Services for Seniors is a non-profit organization that has been providing legal, financial, social and nutritional services for Sonoma County’s population since 1966. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for the aging community by providing services that promote well-being and continued independence.
