‘Dogumentary’ debuts; Tailwags and Handbags

Bon Ton Roulet Sonoma! I’m writing from the beautiful Crescent City, New Orleans, Louisiana. I’m at the Humane Society of the United States Animal Care Expo and it is a fantastic event. More than 2,500 animal welfare professionals in one place to talk about one thing – how to best care for the animals in our world.

Be it global, national or in our own back yard, the same humane principles apply. My head is filled with so much amazing information, I think it might detach from my head and float away.

But closer to home, another dog (pitbull/aussie mix) was tied to our fence Sunday morning and the short answer is that we are glad he was brought to us. The long answer (or question) is how do we educate pet owners that pets are for life. And how do we give everyone the resources needed to keep and care for their pets. I don’t have an answer, but I am certainly in the right place to ask.

Big shout out to Howard (Bo) Sapper, Peter Mcevilley, the Olates (humans and dogs), Halo, Purely for Pets and last but not least, Kevin McNeely. If any of you had the pleasure of bopping around the film festival last week, you may have seen some art displayed at the Sonoma Valley Museum, the Maysonnave House, the Backlot Tent and the Sebastiani Theatre.

Believe or not, the art was done by one of the Olate Dogs and the film “Dogumentary” a great short film, showed how it was done. “Dogumentary” premiered at the festival on Saturday morning at the Sebastiani and the paintings were auctioned as a benefit for Pets Lifeline. Thank you to all for helping us raise money and awareness on adopting shelter animals.

Speaking of adopting shelter animals, please come see the sweet pups we have in residence these days. Willie (for Willie Wonka because of his beautiful chocolate color), our beloved pitbull who was tied to the Pets Lifeline sign, is wonderfully sweet and smart and would make a great family dog. Rue, Twinkle, Pharrell and Moonie are all of the smallish variety. Sweet cuddly chihuahua mixes of all colors. Johnnie is a fawn colored chi-mix who is a bit larger with longer legs. Adorable! Of course, we still have Bessie, who continues to pour love out to all humans she comes in contact with.

We still have a some adult cats who are needing their forever home before the kittens descend upon us – and they have already started. Feral Fawcett, a pregnant mama we’ve been watching for over a week now gave birth yesterday, and the day before, a couple of kitties came in as well. They will not be ready for adoption until sometime in late May, but our other adult cats are available at a Name Your Price Adoption special.

Tailwags and Handbags is coming up on May 1, so if you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, don’t wait. They are starting to go quickly. This is the most fun I have all year and the kick off to the event season.

What better way to get your handbag on and save the animals of Sonoma Valley. Also, don’t forget to bring us those purses. We will be taking them for another three weeks. From New Orleans, I wish y’all a precious day.

Until we meet again ... peace, love and paws.
