By popular request, “The Nut Farm” a three-act comedy is to be reproduced here for the benefit of the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce. This was the announcement made the first of the week, following a conference of the directors of the chamber of commerce and the management of the play. The comedy was first staged at the high school auditorium on Dec. 17. ... The passengers on board the Matson Steamship Company liner, Mariposa, bound from New York to Los Angles and a cruise of the Pacific, will be unable to detour on the scheduled visit to the California missions, according to word received by A. H. price, manager of the Sonoma Mission Inn and Mrs. C. G. Murphy, head of a local committee who had planned a Spanish fiesta for entertainment of the visitors while here. ... L. F. Cowan was reelected president of the Sonoma Valley Water and Irrigation Company, at a meeting of directors of the company Monday, forenoon, held in the office of the company at Sonoma. William Galloway was replaced in the office of vice president and M. A. Cowan was elected secretary and treasurer. ... The Lakeville Social Club is giving another of its card parties at the Lakeville Social Hall on Wednesday evening, Feb. 3. The committee in charge of the affair has arranged for excellent prizes to be given and a generally social evening is anticipated.

Mrs. Luisa Vallejo Emparan, whose critical condition following a heart attack alarmed family and friends last Saturday, has rallied and is reported considerably improved by attending physicians. Mrs. Emparan was 84 years of age last Saturday, but the birthday she has always loved to celebrate found her in the shadows of eternity. However, with that pioneer resistance that has always been hers, the life spark revived and by Tuesday she showed signs of having passed the crisis. ... California’s 1939 fee paid motor vehicle registration increased 109,965 over 1939 figures, it was reported today by Howard Philbrick, director of motor vehicles, who gave the last year’s totals as 2,773,698, the largest number for any state. ... Dr. Warren D. More was installed as the new master of Template Lodge No. 14, F&AM, on last Saturday night at an impressive ceremony during which the retiring master, James Norrbom Jr., was given the customary jewel presented for the lodge by his father, H. J. Norrbom Sr., master of ceremonies. ... Mrs. Walter Bundschu is driving a new 1940 Oldsmobile. ... With the infield turf looking as green as an emerald isle, and the spacious outfield as smooth as a bar room floor, Fetters Field really began to look like a major league baseball park this week. The grandstand and bleachers, capable of holding 1,500 people, are well under construction, the cement foundation being laid during the last week.

Ettore Cadorin saw his portrait of Dean Buy S. Mulberry of the University of California dedicated at a formal luncheon Monday in San Francisco. Mr. Cadorin and his studio associates now divide their time between La Brenta in Sonoma and San Francisco where they have a studio at 1165 Broadway. ... At the hearing in San Rafael on the shallow waterways and harbor development projects before the U.S. Army Engineering Corps Jan. 24, Sonoma Valley was well represented. At this meeting, arranged by the State Chamber of Commerce, North District, local Chamber of Commerce and City of Sonoma, the Sonoma Creek improvements and Wingo development as contemplated were presented by Mayor Pinelli, James Lyttle, President Armand Franquelin of the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce, Oscar Larsen, John Wagnon and also by Dick Watkins, Al McVeigh and L. Perkins. ... A step which may have a far-reaching effect on the future growth and prosperity of Sonoma and the adjacent valley areas, will be initiated tonight with the holding of a special meeting of the Sonoma City Council at 8 p.m. in the Sonoma City Hall for the sole purpose of discussing and acting upon proposals to form a Planning Commission to guide this community’s future growth. ... The unverified and incorrect report that 28 tickets had been given motorists last Saturday morning in Sonoma seemed like a deliberate effort to keep folks from coming through or trading in Sonoma. There were actually just three tickets given by the city traffic officers.
