Lady Dragons top feisty Elsie Allen

Showing the depth of their youthful talent, the defending champion first-place Sonoma Valley High School varsity volleyball girls hosted Elsie Allen last Thursday in Pfeiffer Gym and easily posted their fifth straight Sonoma County League win.

While Elsie Allen couldn’t come close to matching the experience and efficiency levels of the Lady Dragons, the team was able to match their enthusiasm, which made for an upbeat showing, with Sonoma eventually cruising to a 25-9, 25-11, 25-19 victory.

Leading the Lady Dragons were junior Mackenzie Albrecht’s 15 assists, four kills and three serving aces; senior Giana Monterosso’s 13 assists; freshman Jenna Mak’s six digs and three kills; sophomore Sami Von Gober’s five kills and three digs; senior Kayten Mak’s five aces and three digs; frosh Kiara Miles’ five kills; and junior Delaney Swanson’s three digs and two aces.

The Sonoma spikers will end the first round of SCL play with a key league showdown at rival Petaluma this evening, and, following a bye, will compete at El Molino on Tuesday, Oct. 15, before returning home to host SCL rival Analy on Thursday, Oct. 17, in Pfeiffer Gym.
