Lady Dragons sweep El Molino

For the second straight match against a longtime Sonoma County League rival, the three-time defending champion Sonoma Valley High School varsity volleyball girls demonstrated their overall strength, depth and determination in an attempt to achieve their fourth consecutive Sonoma County League title.

After their convincing three-set triumph over visiting Petaluma in last week’s league opener, the Lady Dragons traveled to Forestville Tuesday night and swept past El Molino for the match victory with a dominating 25-11 first-set victory, followed by 25-23 and 25-19 decisions in sets two and three, respectively.

Leading the Sonoma spikers in their romp over the Lion girls were senior Mackenzie Albrecht's 32 assists, nine digs, five kills and a serving ace; sophomore Jenna Mak's 25 digs, five kills and three aces; senior Delaney Swanson's 19 digs, 13 kills and two aces; senior Cheyenne McCambridge’s 10 digs and one ace; Miles' 15 digs, three kills and three blocks; sophomore Kiara Miles' nine digs, five kills and three aces; senior Ciara Smith's seven kills and six blocks; junior Sami Von Gober’s seven digs and two aces; junior Courtney Cogbill’s four digs and four assists; and senior Hannah Herrick three kills.

The Lady Dragons, who hosted another longtime league rival, Analy, last night – results not available at presstime – compete in two SCL matches next week, first playing at Healdsburg on Tuesday evening, Sept. 30, and then hosting Piner at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, in Pfeiffer Gym.
