Lady Dragons pulverize Piner

Playing out their regular-season schedule after wrapping up their fourth straight Sonoma County League title, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity volleyball girls overwhelmed SCL foe Piner from the opening serve until the final point end route to a three-set romp Tuesday night in Santa Rosa.

The Lady Dragons, who clinched a league championship four-peat by defeating Healdsburg last week, routed Piner by set scores of 25-10, 25-8 and 25-6 to remain unbeaten in the SCL at 11-0. They improved their overall record to 21-3.

Leading the Sonoma girls past the Prospectors were senior Mackenzie Albrecht’s  21 assists, seven service aces and six digs; senior Delaney Swanson’s 11 kills, eight digs and one block; junior Jenna Mak's 11 digs, three kills, one block and one ace; senior Hannah Herrick's 10 aces and eight digs; junior Courtney Cogbill’s eight assists; junior Sami Von Gober’s seven digs and two aces; senior Cheyene McCambridge’s four aces; and three kills each by senior Ciara Smith, junior Carlie Vollert and freshman Layla Schoeningh.

The league champion Lady Dragons, who ended their regular season last night honoring their seniors and hosting Elsie Allen – results not available at presstime – are the top seed for the annual postseason SCL tournament and will host fourth-seed Analy in a tourney opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Pfeiffer Gym.
