Prior to last night’s Sonoma County League Tournament title volleyball match in Pfeiffer Gym, the SCL all-league honorees were announced and Sonoma Valley High School junior setter Mackenzie Albrecht was named the most valuable player for the second straight season.
Albrecht was then joined by all-league teammates seniors Kayten Mak and Gianna Monterosso; juniors Delaney Swanson, Hannah Herrick and Ciara Smith; and freshmen Jenna Mak and Kiara Miles in leading the three-time-champion Sonoma varsity girls to their third-straight SCL Tourney title.
Playing with pride, purpose and a chip on their shoulders from being handed their only loss in their final SCL and regular-season match, the Lady Dragons avenged their lone league five-set defeat to Petaluma in dominating fashion.
After sweeping visiting fourth-seed Analy in three sets to open the annual postseason SCL Tournament on Tuesday, top-seeded Sonoma got the matchup it wanted in last night’s tourney final and pummeled second-seed Petaluma, which beat third-seed Healdsburg in its opener, by a 25-9 first-set margin.
The Lady Dragon spikers then followed with a convincing 25-14 second-set win before edging the rallying Trojan girls by a 25-22 third-set score for their SCL Tournament title three-peat.
