Lady Dragons plow past Piner

Hoping to put together a winning regular season stretch drive and enter the postseason with a good dose of momentum, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball girls used a total team effort to romp to their second straight one-sided Sonoma County League victory to remain alone in second place.

Scoring the first 16 points of Wednesday evening's SCL game in Pfeiffer Gym before Piner found the net with a long trey, the Lady Dragons built up a 17-5 first-quarter lead, and extended their advantage to 33-9 at the half.

Then, after junior power forward Delaney Swanson scored 11 straight points in the third quarter, Sonoma cruised through the fourth period for a 60-27 triumph over the visiting girl Prospectors.

Improving their SCL record to 7-2 with three games to go before the postseason league tournament, the Lady Dragons will host Elsie Allen tonight at 7 p.m. in Pfeiffer Gym.

Leading the Sonoma girls past Piner were Swanson's 17 points, nine rebounds and two steals; junior Shelby Camilleri’s 10 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists; junior Ciara Smith's six points, eighth rebounds and four blocks; senior Giana Monterosso’s six points, three assists and two steals; junior Sierra Lilly’s five points, three assists and three rebounds; junior Alexa Hall’s five points, three rebounds and two assists; senior Megan Neely's five points and three rebounds; sophomore Bella Bollman’s four points, three steals and two assists; and junior Hanna Lemaire's two points and three rebounds.
