Lady Dragon spikers mop up at Healdsburg

Knowing they were in for a tough Sonoma County League challenge in their fourth match of the SCL season, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity volleyball girls hit the road Tuesday night to face Healdsburg, a team that reached the finals of Sonoma’s recent Greg Paganini Invitational Tournament.

But the visiting Lady Dragons turned in a defending champion performance in sweeping three straight sets from Healdsburg by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-16.

Leading Sonoma past the Greyhound girls were senior Mackenzie Albrecht’s 34 assists, nine digs and one block; senior Hannah Herrick’s 19 digs, three kills and one ace; senior Delaney Swanson’s 17 kills, 15 digs, two blocks and one serving ace; sophomore Jenna Mak’s 14 digs, four kills and three aces; junior Sami Von Gober’s 11 digs and one ace; and senior Ciara Smith’s nine kills; and sophomore Kiara Miles’ five digs and four kills.

The Lady Dragon spikers, who hosted league foe Piner last night – results not available at presstime – hit the SCL road for two matches next week, playing Elsie Allen in Santa Rosa on Tuesday, Oct. 7, before a rematch at Petaluma on Thursday, Oct. 9.
