It was a Tuesday of Sonoma County League success, coupled with a nonleague stumble, for three Sonoma Valley High School girls’ fall sports teams, with tennis and golf posting SCL wins over Piner, while varsity volleyball was dealt a defeat by perennial nonleague power Maria Carrillo.
The tennis Lady Dragons soundly defeated Piner 6-1 in Santa Rosa and were led by junior Hanna Lemaire’s 6-0, 6-0 over Amanda Hernandez at No. 2 singles; senior Michelle Stovall’s 6-0, 6-0 over Andre Macy at No. 3 singles; junior Annie Morgan’s 6-0, 6-1 over Gabby Pineda at No. 4 singles; seniors Haley Glasner’s and Brooke Slack’s 7-5, 6-1 over Hernandez and Pineda at No. 2 doubles; junior Stephanie Angulo’s sophomore Alison Gray’s 6-1, 6-3 over Daisy Li and Lelani Emerey at No. 3 doubles; and junior Cecilia Montano’s 3-6, 6-7 loss to Vicky Nyugen at No. 1 singles.
The Lady Dragon netters played at SCL rival Petaluma yesterday – results not available at presstime – and will host league foe Analy at 3:30 p.m. this Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the high school courts.

Sonoma’s golfing girls picked up their first SCL win with a 349-incomplete decision over visiting Piner at the Sonoma Golf Club, with senior Jacquie Peterson leading the way with a nine-hole round 59 that earned her medalist honors.
The Lady Dragon golfers, who played league foe Elsie Allen in Santa Rosa yesterday – results not available at presstime – and will host SCL rival Petaluma Tuesday, Sept. 17, at SGC, were also led by sophomore Callie Hogan’s 64, sophomore Anna De Smet’s 71, sophomore Isabel Garon’s 77, and sophomore Kaylin Riebli’s 78.
The Lady Dragon golfers host league foe Piner at 3:30 p.m. today, before teeing off against SCL this Thursday, Sept. 12.

Sonoma’s varsity volleyball girls ran into another strong nonleague opponent in perennial North Bay League and North Coast Section power Maria Carrillo and ended up dropping a 21-25, 16-25, 25-22, 22-25 decision.
Pacing the Lady Dragons were junior Mackenzie Albrecht’s 28 assists, four kills, four digs and one solo block; junior Delaney Swanson’s 13 kills and five digs; junior Anastasia Claros’ 12 digs; freshman Jenna Mak’s 10 digs; frosh Kiara Miles’ eight kills and four digs; senior Kayten Mak’s eight digs; senior Gianna Monterosso’s seven digs; junior Ciara Smith’s four kills and a solo block; senior Kaitlyn Boldt’s four kills; and sophomore Carlie Vollert’s one solo block.
The Lady Dragon spikers hosted Justin-Siena in their home opener last night – results not available at presstime – and will compete in the Albany Varsity Tournament tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 14, before the defending SCL champions host longtime rival El Molino in their league opener on Thursday, Sept. 19, in Pfeiffer Gym.
Sonoma’s volleyball program will then hold its annual varsity Greg Paganini Invitational Tournament, which benefits the Greg Paganini Scholarship Fund and features a highly competitive 16-team field, on Saturday, Sept. 21, in Pfeiffer Gym.
The Lady Dragons’ inaugural 16-team Paganini junior varsity tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, and anyone interested in sponsoring the tourneys to help cover expenses and provide scholarships through the Paganini Scholarship Fund can email sonomavalleyball@gmail.com.
