Dogs should be allowed to walk in the Montini Preserve. First off, they have earned it. For instance, who can deny their remarkable service to military and police organizations where many dogs have given their lives to save others?
And who can deny the positive impact of the family dog to uplift our physical and mental health, help our children learn responsibility, and protect our homes?
Secondly, those who voice strong views about “preservation” go too far when they seek to ban dogs from our trails. After all, it was no less a preservationist than John Muir who extoled the virtues of hiking with dogs in his most popular memoir, “Stickeen,” about his adventures with a little black terrier. By the way – he did not use a leash.
