Hospital, Parkpoint open wellness center

Sonoma Valley Hospital and Parkpoint Health Clubs will open Compass Health Assessment Center on Saturday, Jan. 11.

The new facility, located next to Parkpoint Health Club, 19111 Sonoma Highway, in Sonoma, is a special collaboration to support community health by providing access to comprehensive health and fitness resources at a single location.

Compass provides an integrated approach to health and fitness, bringing together Parkpoint fitness professionals and hospital clinicians. The center uses state-of-the-art technology to help participants assess their level of health and fitness, and then provides professional support to identify realistic individual goals and move forward with a personalized plan.

“Compass grows out of the shared desire of the hospital and Parkpoint to improve the health of our community,” said Kelly Mather, Sonoma Valley Hospital CEO. “We believe it is valuable to provide the community with access to the special health and fitness resources that Compass offers. We intend for this facility to help everyone, from those just starting out to those who wish to move to a higher level of fitness.” Mather noted that Dr. Suzannah Bozzone, medical director of wellness at Sonoma Valley Hospital, is leading hospital wellness outreach efforts such as this for the community.

“Compass represents an effort to rethink how we can help people become healthier and achieve greater fitness,” said Jennifer Anderson, Parkpoint Clubs general manager. “What makes the program unique is its highly personalized approach. We can draw on a range of tests for an individual assessment that helps us to identify what steps are needed for each participant to see meaningful improvements.”

According to Mel Salada, Compass wellness director, Compass offers four different packages, all reasonably priced, that will meet the needs of just about everyone no matter their current level of health and fitness.

Compass assessments are conducted in a new facility adjacent to the Parkpoint Health Club in the Maxwell Shopping Center off of Highway 12. On Jan. 11, a panel of integrative health providers from Sonoma Valley Hospital’s Integrative Health Network (IHN) will discuss ways to create a successful New Year’s health resolution.

Over the following week, Jan. 13-16, the opening continues with activities, workshops and ask-an-expert sessions involving members of the Compass team and the IHN. Discussions will cover nutrition, goal setting, functional movements, and relaxation.  For a complete schedule of presenters and topics, visit the Compass website at compass-sonoma.com.
