Get your party shoes on, Sonoma – the annual City Party is on the way.

The 21st incarnation of the summer salute to Sonoma is set for Friday, Aug. 18, on the Plaza. From 5 to 10 p.m. there will be live music, picnicking and local brews and wine to enjoy all in a family friendly atmosphere of frivolity.

The live entertainment features a selection of Latin salsa, blues, rock and pop from the renowned N’Rumba, Junior Boogie and Friends, and Riptide.

New to the event this year will be a variety of gourmet foods for purchase, prepared by local nonprofits. From sausage sandwiches, hamburgers, burritos, fruit salad, cookies and pies – it’s a chance to support such organizations as Nuestra Voz of Sonoma, St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Soroptimist and Sonoma Overnight Support. Cold beer and wine will be poured by the Native Sons of the Golden West and American Veterans, or AMVETS.

This year’s brews and wines have been donated by Lagunitas Brewing Company and Highway 12 Wines. (Proceeds to go to the Native Sons and AMVETS.)

City officials recommend bringing along picnic blankets, folding camp tables and chairs, picnic supplies, warm clothing, a flashlight and dancing shoes. Event organizers ask that attendees follow a few simple rules:

“No unattended set-up prior to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug 18. Items left unattended will be removed. No roping off or barricading of sections in the Plaza; those who do this will be asked to take it down immediately.

“You cannot bring household furniture (this includes dining tables, sofas and chairs), no barbecues of any kind, no candles, no tents or canopies, or aerosols of any kind. No pets are allowed in the park.”

As always, no smoking of any kind is allowed in the Plaza.
