Sonoma Valley vacation home destroyed by fire

A fire destroyed a three-story vacation home in Sonoma Valley’s Diamond A neighborhood early Sunday morning.

By the time Sonoma Valley Fire Department received the call at 1:31 a.m. the blaze had been burning for some time and had spread to vegetation around the house, said Sonoma Valley Fire Chief Steve Akre.

Firefighters were able to quickly stop the flames from spreading to surrounding areas and had the structure fire under control by 2:23 a.m., Akre said.

Eight adults were vacationing in the home at the time of the fire, but none were injured, Akre said. All were from out of town and the Red Cross is providing them assistance to return to their primary homes, Akre continued.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Bennett Valley, Glen Ellen, Kenwood, Petaluma and Schell Vista fire departments, as well as Cal Fire, provided assistance fighting the blaze.

“The house is a total loss,” said Akre. “About a quarter was saved, but it will all have to be torn down.”
