Heavy rains, little damage as latest storm pelts Sonoma

While Sonoma Valley has been pelted by rain, it seems to have escaped any damage.

Though creeks and ditches are filling, there are no reports of any flooding except for the intersection of Broadway and Highway 121. That intersection, which floods with regularity, has been closed since Sunday.

There have been scattered reports of trees down, but debris has been cleaned up quickly.

In Sonoma, Public Works Director Dan Takasugi said the current storm hasn’t caused any problems. He said there’s been some minor street flooding, but nothing serious.

Takasugi said the city has sand available at Depot Park for Sonoma residents. Residents can get up to 10 free sand bags at City Hall on the Plaza.

“We’ve gone through more than 1,000 sand bags and 12 cubic yards of sand this winter,” Takasugi said.

Takasugi advises residents to bring their own shovel to fill the bags.

Residents in the unincorporated parts of the Valley can pick up sand bags at Friedman Brothers on Broadway and Sonoma Materials, also on Broadway. There’s no charge at Friedman Brothers, but at Sonoma Materials, there’s a $2 charge to fill them yourself and $4 if they fill them for you.

County roads reports no road closures in the Valley.
