‘I-T’ wins prestigious EPPY award

Shares honor for ?‘best weekly newspaper' website of 2016|

The Sonoma Index-Tribune earned one of the digital-media world’s highest honors this week when the EPPY awards named sonomanews.com its Best Weekly or Non-Daily Newspaper Website of 2016.

The award was in the category for sites with under 1 million unique monthly visitors; the I-T shared the top spot on the list with the Las Vegas Weekly.

The EPPY Awards, now in their 21st year, are presented by Editor & Publisher magazine and honor the best media websites across 31 categories.

Jason Walsh, editor of the Index-Tribune, said credit for the EPPY is shared by the entire editorial staff, as well as the site’s online-design team.

“This is a real honor,” said Walsh. “The push we’ve made this year to double content and improve the look and user-friendliness of the site is paying off. There’s more to do, but winning an EPPY shows we’re headed in the right direction.”

No weekly newspaper with more than 1 million unique monthly visitors scored high enough with contest judges to earn an EPPY this year.

Other publications earning EPPYs this week include the Wall Street Journal, CNNMoney, the Boston Globe, ESPN, the San Antonio Express and Bloomberg News.

The awards were announced Oct. 28.
