HICAP offers Medicare information

Representatives from HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) will give a free presentation from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Vintage House senior center, 264 First St. E., Sonoma.

HICAP will be there for their annual presentation about Medicare, Medicare fraud, and annual updates about the program. There will also be a question and answer period.

Anyone who is turning 65 this year will want to know if they are one of more than 8,000 people a day newly eligible for Medicare. Will they need to apply for Medicare or will they automatically be enrolled? What are the different parts of Medicare? And where does one go to find other insurance to fill in the “gaps” of Medicare?

HICAP provides seniors and disabled individuals with objective information about Medicare and other insurance issues. HICAP representatives will explain whether or not one needs to apply for Medicare, how to do this, and help attendees narrow down their options in order to make a good decision for their other health insurance needs.

The HICAP program is funded by federal and state grants administered by the California Department of Aging in partnership with the Area Agency on Aging and is a free service. HICAP does not endorse, recommend, or sell health insurance plans. For a one-on-one HICAP counseling appointment, call 800-434-0222.
