Editor, Index-Tribune:
Acts of thoughtfulness and kindness by others should be announced and celebrated.
The other day, I was on my bike running errands around town. I had done some banking and was on my way to my next destination, but upon arrival I discovered my wallet was missing.
In a panic, I hurried to retrace my steps. Would I find my wallet lying in the street where it had fallen from my pocket? Would all the contents – credit cards, drivers license and cash – be in the possession of someone who would see it as his or her good fortune?
I had only recently gone through the annoying experience of having my wallet snatched by a professional pickpocket at the airport. The prospect of having to repeat the feelings of helplessness, anger and shame were crowding my thoughts as I frantically biked back to my destination.
Then, coming toward me in her car, a woman pulled me over. “Were you just coming from this direction a few moments ago?” she asked. “Yes!” I replied with a sigh of relief. She had found my wallet and turned it into the bank, where I then went to retrieve it.
But in my hurry to end my anxious calamity, I did not ask for her name. So, if you are reading this, dear soul, I wish to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
