Heart of Valley group celebrates crush

Heart of Sonoma Valley Association (HOSVA) is celebrating harvest this weekend with its 2014 Sonoma Valley Crush festival happening Sept. 26 to 28.

Fifteen wineries throughout the Heart of Sonoma Valley will be participating in this “hands-on” harvest experience. Guests will not only get a behind-the-scenes look at what happens during harvest, but they’ll have the opportunity to get involved, hands-on.

For three days, wineries will be offering a variety of harvest activities including grape sampling in the vineyards, crush pad tours, samples of fresh pressed juice and grapes picked fresh off the vine including chardonnay, pinot noir, zinfandel and cabernet sauvignon. Guests will even taste a wine while it’s fermenting. Learn how to read a Refractometer and gain a deeper understanding about the importance of the balance between sugar and acid levels in wine grapes. Meet with and ask winemakers questions about harvest.

The three-day festival takes place at 15 wineries throughout the Valley on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26, 27 and 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The three-day pass is $35 a person and designated drivers are $10 a person.

“We invite anyone who has ever romanticized about getting involved with harvest, hands-on to come out to the 2014 Sonoma Valley Crush event. It’s going to be an unforgettable experience,” said Josie Gay, the group’s executive director.

Tickets are on sale and they are limited. The three-day pass includes a souvenir wine glass and access to event wine tastings and harvest activities.

Tickets may be purchased online at heartofsonomavalley.com or by calling 431-1137.

The 15 participating wineries include Arrowood Vineyards & Winery, Deerfield Ranch Winery, En Garde Winery, Enkidu Wines, Eric Ross Winery, Kaz Winery, Kenwood Vineyards, Loxton Cellars, Mayo Family Winery, Moondance Cellars, NakedWines.com, Paradise Ridge Winery, St. Anne’s Crossing Winery, Ty Caton Vineyards, VJB Vineyards & Cellars.
