Half Marathon raises $16K for Hanna

Destination Races, producer of the annual Napa-to-Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon, presented a check for $16,440 to Hanna Boys Center on Nov. 1, recognizing the volunteer efforts of some 80 Hanna boys, staff and friends of Hanna who supported the race and a pre-race Expo held at the Hanna campus.

The popular race brought nearly 4,000 runners to the Sonoma Valley for a weekend of racing, wine, food and themed activities. Hanna Boys Center has served as the primary beneficiary and volunteer provider of the race since its inception in 2004.

Matt Dockstader, president and founder of Destination Races, said, “We’re delighted that a locally-based nonprofit, and one that has such a broad reach and profound effect on the lives of these boys, has been our catalyst of this event for 10 years now. The boys really get into the event and they inspire the runners out at the water stations. It’s been a fabulous win-win relationship for both of us and we’re honored to be able to contribute to this fine institution here in Sonoma.”

Hanna will again host the pre-race expo on campus next year and tickets for the July 20, 2014, race go on sale at noon Thursday, Nov. 14, and the event is expected to sell out almost immediately.

Destination Races is based in Sonoma and produces the Wine Country Half Marathon Series, consisting of six races including Santa Barbara wine country, Northern Virginia, Napa-to-Sonoma, Oregon (Willamette Valley), Kelowna, B.C. and Healdsburg.
