A Sonoma man is facing multiple felony charges after he reportedly held an acquaintance at gunpoint at his Hyde Road residence.
At around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, a man called 9-1-1 to report he had been assaulted and held at gunpoint by Jason Kurtz, 32, at the residence in the 21000 block of Hyde Road.
Sonoma county deputies responded, but by that time Kurtz had fled the scene.
Deputies returned the next evening when neighbors called to say that Kurtz had rammed the gate into the residence. Kurtz was still there when deputies arrived, and he was arrested on charges of felony false imprisonment, felony assault with a deadly weapon – a gun, felony being a prohibited person from owning a firearm and a probation violation.
Kurtz was booked into Sonoma County Jail.

Friday, Aug. 2:
11:20 p.m. – Mething around. While on patrol in in the 18000 block of First Avenue, deputies spotted two individuals, both known to the deputies, and one of them appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Both of them, a man and a woman, were on probation. Deputies tested the female and determined she was under the influence of a controlled substance. After taking both to the Valley substation, deputies found a glass pipe with methamphetamine in one of the woman’s socks. Paige Hellman–Turner, 30, of the Springs, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance. Deputies also arrested Michael Minardi, 50, also of the springs, on charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance and a felony probation violation.
Monday, Aug. 5;
7:39 a.m. – Early harvest. Sheriff’s narcotics officers, along with officers from CAMP, destroyed more than 5,600 marijuana plants at two sites off Highway 12 south of the Kunde Winery. There were 4,598 plants at one site and 1,040 at a second. No evidence was found to indicate who may have been involved in the grow. The plants were transported and destroyed.
Wednesday, Aug. 7:
3:23 p.m. – Stolen jewelry. A woman who was cleaning the house of her former employer in the 100 block of International Boulevard reported that someone had broken in and stolen jewelry. There was no estimate on the loss.
Thursday, Aug. 8:
7:47 a.m. – Anything for some strawberries. The owner of the fruit stand in the 1000 block of Watmaugh Road reported that someone had broken into the facility sometime overnight. The thief stole $15 in change and five baskets of strawberries. The owner reported that this was the third time the stand has been burglarized.
6:30 p.m. – Auto abuse. Deputies responded to a domestic violence call in the 18000 block of Happy Lane. When they arrived, the victim told them her 42–year–old husband wasn't happy that she was trying to leave the residence and so he reportedly rammed her car with his – not once, but twice. Deputies arrested the husband on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm.
Friday, Aug. 9:
11:30 p.m. – Is that a syringe in your bra? While on patrol in the area of Highway 12 and Siesta Way, a deputy spotted a woman he knew was wanted on a warrant. The deputy stopped the woman and arrested her for the warrant. The deputy also determined that she was under the influence of a controlled substance and found a syringe in her bra. During booking at the Sonoma County Jail, corrections officers discovered a small bag (.5 grams) of methamphetamine, also in the woman's bra. The woman, Melissa Filippi, 37, of Sonoma, received an additional charge of felony bringing drugs into jail to go along with possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance and her bench warrant.
Saturday, Aug. 10:
12:30 a.m. – Probation possession. While on patrol in the vicinity of First Avenue and East Thomson, a deputy spotted a man in a vehicle who was on probation. During a conversation with him, deputies determined the man was under the influence of a controlled substance. They also searched the area where he had been standing and discovered a glass pipe on the ground. The 30-year-old Springs resident was arrested on charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation.
9:19 a.m. – Smash & grab. A resident in the 18000 block of Lomita Avenue reported that sometime overnight, someone shattered a window in his truck and made off with tools and a laptop with a total value of $700. The victim told a deputy that he didn’t see or hear anything.
10:48 a.m. – Smash & grab II. A hiker at the Sonoma Valley Regional Park in Glen Ellen reported that while she was away from her vehicle, someone smashed the passenger window and made off with her purse containing her driver’s license and credit cards.
Sunday, Aug. 11:
2 p.m. – Stolen jewelry melted. A resident of the 500 block of Bokman Drive reported that sometime in the previous two weeks some of his jewelry had been stolen. The man learned of it when somebody told him that the jewelry – worth an estimated $15,000 – had been stolen and pawned at a local business. He told deputies that an individual at the business identified the reportedly stolen items through photos, but the jewelry had already been melted down. The man said he needed the report for insurance purposes.
Monday, Aug. 12:
9:20 a.m. – Hungry thief. A business in the 18000 block of Highway 12 reported a burglary sometime overnight. The thief gained entry through an unlocked window and stole $200 worth of food.
Tuesday, Aug. 13:
10:45 a.m. – Meth on the roof. While on patrol on Highway 12 near Calle del Monte, a deputy noticed a man standing outside a store. The deputy knew the man had five warrants for his arrest, but after turning around, the man fled. The deputy discovered the man attempting to hide on the roof of a nearby apartment house. During a search, the deputy found two pipes – both containing methamphetamine. The deputy arrested Steven Suits, 36, of the Springs, on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia – and the five outstanding warrants. Suits was booked into the county jail.
