Group honors SVH’s skilled nursing facility

Sonoma Valley Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility is one of only 77 nationally to be named as a 2014 recipient of a Silver Commitment to Quality Award recognizing its commitment to improving quality care.

The national award is presented annually by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL).

“We’re extremely proud of our Skilled Nursing team for the national recognition they continue to bring to the hospital,” said CEO Kelly Mather. “It’s an amazing honor and represents the commitment to quality service this hospital stands for, both in our region and nationally.”

Mather noted that the hospital’s skilled nursing facility is one of just six in California to receive a silver award this year, and gave special recognition to Melissa Evans, director of the Skilled Nursing Facility and her staff, along with the facility’s medical directors, Dr. Clinton Lane and Dr. Rolf Olness.

Sonoma Valley Hospital’s 27-bed Skilled Nursing Facility provides a high level of care for patients who no longer require acute care services, but are not ready to return to independent living. Skilled nursing patients have access to the entire range of hospital services to help with their healing, including rehabilitation, as well as round-the-clock access to medical care, including two on-site physicians, and the hospital’s emergency services.

Implemented by AHCA/NCAL in 1996, the National Quality Award Program is centered on the core values and criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. The program assists providers of long term and post-acute care services in achieving their performance excellence goals, and has three award levels: bronze, silver, and gold.

The award will be presented to Sonoma Valley Hospital during AHCA/NCAL’s 65th annual Convention in Washington, D.C., this October.
