Girls softball, Stanley Cup, benefit golf

THE CAL-HAZE GIRLS’ under-16-year-old A-level softball team will hold tryouts for the 2014 fall tournament teams on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Sonoma Valley High School’s field, 20000 Broadway; and on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Rancho Cotati High School’s field on Snyder Lane in Rohnert Park. THE NATIONAL HOCKEY League champion Los Angeles Kings are making a California tour with their recently won Stanley Cup, and will have it on public demonstration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Snoopy’s Home Ice Arena, 1667 W. Steele Lane, Santa Rosa, on Sunday, Aug. 31.

HANNA BOYS CENTER’S 22nd annual benefit golf classic will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at the Sonoma Golf Club, with a 9:30 a.m. registration, an 11:30 tee-off using the scramble format, and a cocktail hour and dinner following at 5 p.m. The tournament cost is $275 and includes green fees, cart, driving range privileges, refreshments on the course, as well as dinner and a tee gift. Also, Hanna Boys Center, with support from the University of San Francisco men’s tennis team, coached by Peter Bartlett, is hosting a benefit Pro-Am Tennis Tournament on Friday, Sept. 26. The tourney is for 4.0 to 4.5+ ranked players, with 30 entries available and registration at the Hanna Center courts is at 8:30, followed by tourney at 9 a.m., and a 12:30 p.m. sit-down lunch and awards ceremony. Entry fee is $250 and includes court fees, continental breakfast, gifts, tennis ball, refreshments, prizes, lunch, awards and locker room access. SONOMA VALLEY MENTORING Alliance and the Kiwanis Club of Sonoma Plaza have again teamed up for the fourth annual Golf-A-Thon, which takes place on Friday, Oct. 3, at Oakmont’s East Golf Course. There’s no cost to play, however, competitors are asked to raise sponsorship money, with only room for 16 more golfers.
