Girl Scout information sessions set Sept. 7, 10

Sonoma Girl Scouts are hosting two information events for parents and girls to learn more about starting or joining a Girl Scout troop, and the fun opportunities available through scouting. Anyone interested in volunteering with Girl Scouting is also welcome to attend these events.

The events include:

• Sunday, Sept. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Depot Park, on the First Street West side. There will be some outdoor activities and girls and their parents can learn more about being a Girl Scout.

• Wednesday, Sept 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the community room at the Sonoma Valley Library, 755 W. Napa St. Information night for parents and girls to learn about joining or starting a new troop.

Girl Scouting is the place for girls to have fun, make friends, and try new experiences such as building a robot, volunteering with a coastal clean-up, learning to cook outdoors, or kayaking on the Petaluma River.

Volunteers are the backbone of the Girl Scout Program. Adults are needed to lead troops, teach a special hobby or talent, or helping at one-time events. There is always a need for adults – both men and women – who have a willingness to inspire the girls.

Membership in Girl Scouts is open to girls ages 5-17; women and men over 17 can join as adult members. Girl Scout annual membership is $15 a year, and families can apply for financial aid.
