George DiGiulio

George DiGiulio, 75, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, in Sonoma. He was born and raised in Sonoma.

His parents were Gisberto and Yolanda DiGiulio. He graduated from St. Francis Solano and Sonoma Valley High School. He received an associate’s degree in law enforcement from SRJC. Soon after, he realized it wasn’t for him, so George joined the United States Army to study electronics. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., with a tour in Vietnam. George worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 31 years. The next 14 years, he built cabinets and furniture for clients and his family. He was an amazing craftsman and passionate about creating unique pieces.

In 1965, he and Carol Minelli were married in Sonoma and their loving journey began as the couple built a good life filled with hard work, fun and lots of laughter.

George loved his family and the time he spent fishing with his sons, teaching them about cars, construction, electronics, life lessons, helping others and just being there for family and friends. George was a gentle soul with a big heart.

George is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons David DiGiulio (Lisa), of Reno, Nev.; Dino DiGiulio (Trina), of Sonoma; five grandchildren, Kasey Riley (James), of Reno, Jordan DiGiulio, of Sacramento, Danielle DiGiulio, of Reno, Chance and Corey DiGiulio, of Sonoma.

George was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Emil DiGiulio, Suzie Jones, Peter DiGiulio and Reno Bottarini.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sonoma Valley Hospital, Hospice By The Bay, Rotary Club, Boys and Girls Club, or charity of your choice.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Duggan’s Mission Chapel,525 W. Napa St.,Sonoma, CA. 95476 on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014  at noon. Private inurnment.
