Sonoma Valley winery gingerbread contest on now

Who will take the cake in annual contest?|

Each December, the Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Alliance member wineries engage in a friendly competition to create the most magnificent gingerbread masterpiece. The Alliance’s 11th annual Gingerbread Contest will run through Saturday, Dec. 31.

For 2016, wineries were asked to draw inspiration from Sonoma Valley’s heritage-driven moniker – “In Sonoma Valley the Roots Run Deep” – with a holiday twist.

Each winery displays its creations in their respective tasting rooms. Visitors can pick up a map of all participating wineries at any location, and are invited to vote for their favorites either via the onsite paper ballots or online on the Sonoma Valley Wine Facebook page. Each time voters cast a ballot either in person or online; they are entered to win a case of hand-selected Sonoma Valley wines.

The 2016 contestants are B.R. Cohn Winery, Bryter Estates, Chateau St. Jean, Highway 12 Vineyards & Winery, Larson Family Winery and Sonoma-Loeb Winery. Larson Family Winery is the 2015 defending gingerbread champion.

The event is one of several featured in “Holidays in Sonoma Valley,” a calendar of local festivities including open houses, winemaker dinners, vineyard lightings, Santa visits, toy drives and musical performances.
