Fr. Mike will bless animals

Happy autumn Sonoma! Although there is less light at the end of the day, this is a beautiful time of year in the wine country. Perfect for walking through the vineyards with your dog. I always try to guess which type of wine it is by the color of the leaf, but I don’t think that always plays out.

The yellow leaves are chardonnays, orangey colored a savingnon blanc, pinot blanc perhaps or pinot gris. The darker colored leaves cabernets, merlots and syrahs. I don’t think there is any rhyme or reason to it. If there is, please educate me.

We’ve had our third wave of kittens, and they are no longer flying out the door as they did all summer. As a bit of inspirations, are having a back to school special with kittens over four months only $40. We have some adorable furry felines in the kitten room who would just love to come home with you. And we might be open to negotiation if you get a pair. Two are so much fun and keep each other entertained and can hang out together when you are away. The baby kittens that are coming to us this late in the season are struggling as they are likely third and fourth litters. We are going to start our feral spay campaign earlier this year to see if we can help these poor feral females who just keep having kittens. It certainly can’t be easy for them.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m., all are welcome to bring their animals to Pets Lifeline to celebrate the Blessing of the Animals with Father Mike Kelly of St. Francis Solano giving the blessing. There will also be service at St. Francis Solano on Saturday where animals are welcome for the blessing. You can find out more about that at stfrancissolano.com or by calling 996-6759. Father Mike has been coming to Pets Lifeline for more than five years now to say the prayer of St. Francis Assisi and bless every animal in our care. He is such a lovely man and we always look forward to his visits on Oct. 4. Thank you Father Mike.

Perhaps we can ask for a special blessing to a few of our longer-term residents that they find their forever homes soon. One is our beautiful lab/boxer mix, Cassie (formerly Bessie) who is now been here for more than a year. She’s such a sweet wonderful people-loving dog. And then there is Macho and Florasita who are both very nice dogs, but for one reason or another, their human has yet to find them here. We’ve had some great adoptions over the last week with Missy, Jake and Courtney going home. A few of our newer residents are Leroy Brown a feisty brown and black chi mix, Lolli a fawn and white little darling of a chihuahua, Rue who looks like a chihuahua in an aussie suit, Shakira, another sweet shy chi mix and Lilah. Lilah is a 10-month-old German shepherd mix that is a handful to say the least. If you or anyone you know is looking for a German shepherd and wants a puppy, you should come check her out. She’s a beautiful girl that our staff and a dedicated volunteer (thank you Al Saunders) are working diligently to train. She just wants love and attention, but goes after it in all the wrong ways. When you think of it, haven’t we all been guilty of that at some point? Hope to see you around the ranch.

Peace, love and paws!
