Four-team logjam atop men’s Jack Benny hoops

It’s gotten crowded at the top of the Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League standings.

After a “topsy turvy” two Sundays of action, and a couple of forfeits, there’s a four-team, first-place logjam between defending playoff and regular-season champions Patt’s Copy World and Heffernan Insurance Brokers, respectively, La Salette and Murphy’s Irish Pub with 6-4 records each.

Just one game back at 5-5 are R&B Custom Home Builders, followed by VOM Fire’s 1-9 mark after upending Patt’s Copy 69-60 for its first win of the season last Sunday at the Altimira Middle School gym, led by Edwin Hidalgo’s game-high 31 points with a jaw-dropping nine treys, Jason Campbell’s 12, Gary Johnson’s 10, Matt and Rob Ingersoll’s five each, AJ Armanini’s four and Joe Kirkwood’s two.

In last Sunday’s other played game – Heffernan Insurance Brokers won on a forfeit by La Salette – Murphy’s Irish Pub toppled R&B Custom Home Builders 67-49, led by Jeff Kellogg’s game-high 28 points with three treys, Jamie Svanda’s 16 on four treys, Beni Comma’s 12, Eric Jorgensen’s six, Steve Mellinger’s three and Dan Sooter’s two. R&B was paced by Al Martinson’s 20 points on four treys, Chris Nufo’s nine, Chris Schnabel’s seven, Vic Sanz’s six, Ron Hall’s four and Danny Dwyer’s three.

On Sunday, Feb. 23, Heffernan Insurance Brokers defeated R&B Custom Home Builders 70-49, led by Cody Sanderlin’s game-high 21 points, Clem Moore’s 17, Kevin Jaggie’s 11, Brian Stephenson’s seven, Pete Ahern and Steve Matuszak’s six apiece, and Joe Neely’s two. Pacing the Builders were Martinson’s 18 points with four treys, Sanz’s 15, Schnabel’s seven, Hall’s four, Jim Happ’s three and Dwyer’s two.

La Salette beat Patt’s Copy World 62-52, led by Aaron Smith’s game-high 16 points, Aaron Locks’ 11 with three treys, Mike Kellison and Don Fowler’s 11 each, Kim Batchelder’s eight and John Barr’s five. Patt’s was paced by Lenny Clayburg’s 15 points with three treys, Dave Studdert’s 12, Mark Fidler’s 11 with three treys, Tim Lilly’s nine, Jeremy Lawson’s three and Scott Summers’ two.

Murphy’s Irish Pub doused VOM Fire 64-53, led by Kellogg’s game-high 26 points, Comma’s 18 with three treys, Svanda’s 12, Mellinger’s five and Rich Tunheim’s three. Pacing VOM were Tyler Nethaway’s 21 points, Hidalgo’s 11 with three treys, Campbell’s six, and five apiece by Johnson, Chris Ratto and Pat Dudy.
