FISH holds volunteer meeting on March 27

FISH, Friends In Sonoma Helping, is actively seeking volunteers for a number of opportunities that include dispatching, driving and assisting in the Food Room, and will host an orientation meeting for prospective volunteers at 10 a.m. Thursday, Match 27.

The meeting will be held at FISH Central – 18330 Sonoma Highway.

FISH is an all-volunteer organization that has addressed the needs of its Valley neighbors who are generally poor, elderly and without resources.

One of FISH’s most pressing needs is for drivers to provide rides to medical appointments, which includes a number of Valley residents who need to be taken to Napa or Petaluma for dialysis three times each week.

Out-of-town rides are high priority as many of its requests are from people too frail for public transportation.

Another need is for telephone dispatchers who work from their home and take calls.

Good social and problem solving skills are characteristics of all of its dispatchers.

The FISH food distribution center is also in need of volunteers to distribute groceries.

If anyone has a few extra hours to invest in FISH, they’ll experience the gratification of making life just a bit better for one of their neighbors who is in needs of a friend and a good deed.

Call 996-0111 and let FISH know you are coming or just join at FISH Central where the access to its building is on Sierra Drive. Linda Stevens, FISH’s volunteer coordinator, will be there to introduce volunteers to FISH and the possibilities of a long-term relationship.
