Robert Ferguson Observatory in Sugarloaf Ridge State Park will celebrate Women’s History Month on Saturday, March 29.
The day will begin with the usual solar viewing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Solar telescopes will be set up to listen and look safely at the sun. Admission to solar viewing is free.
At 8 p.m., the observatory’s public star party begins.
The special guest speaker for March will be Laura Sparks, Santa Rosa Junior College astronomy instructor. She will pay tribute to the unsung “Women in Astronomy.” The second presentation will be on our sister planet “Venus.” The observatory's three main telescopes plus many additional telescopes will be open for viewing. Admission to the star party is $3 per adult, under 18 free.
Friendly and knowledgeable docents are always available to answer questions. Guests should arrive before 11 p.m. to assure that the observatory stays open.
Sugarloaf Parking is $8 a car.
The observatory is located at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park 2605 Adobe Canyon Road in Kenwood.
