After seven seasons of outdoor musical revues featuring show tunes, standards and pop songs mixed with dance numbers, the Transcendence Theatre Company plans something new for its eighth “Broadway Under the Stars” season this summer at Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen.

The company will present its first full musical production, the Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway hit “A Chorus Line,” about the backstage life of singers and dancers.

The show, directed by Transcendence co-founder and artistic director Amy Miller, will run on weekends from June 14 to 30.

The Transcendence company features performers with experience on Broadway or in national touring companies.

“‘A Chorus Line’ is a perfect show for Transcendence because it celebrates how every person has their own unique story and journey and how that unites us all through the experience of life,” Miller said in the company’s season announcement.

“You may have seen ‘A Chorus Line’ before, but you have never seen it under the stars in our field of dreams,” she added.

“A Chorus Line,” conceived, directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, features music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban, book by James Kirkwood Jr. and Nicholas Dante and additional choreography by Bob Avian. It opened on Broadway in 1975 and ran for 6,137 performances, closing in 1990. The Transcendence summer season also includes three new revue productions: a new edition of the annual “Fantastical Family Night,” July 19 and 20, “Those Dancin’ Feet,” Aug. 9 to 25, and a new edition of the annual “Gala Celebration,” Sept. 6 to 8.

Performances start at 7:30 p.m. in the old cannery ruins in the park. Pre-show picknicking - including wine, beer and gourmet food trucks starts at 5 p.m.
