Sonoma Cinemas lowers prices

Multi-plex is reducing its adult tickets from $9.50 to $8.|

Sonoma Cinemas has announced that it will reduce its adult ticket prices on Friday, Oct. 18. Going forward, the Sonoma Highway multi-plex will charge $8 for adult tickets, down from $9.50 previously.

Every Tuesday, the theater also offers all tickets at $4.75.

Sonoma Cinema 9 is owned and operated by Cinema West, a Petaluma-based chain of 15 California movie theater locations. The Sonoma location is the only site in the chain advertising new lower prices.

Sonoma Cinemas began offering beer and wine at its concession stand in May 2018. It received its permit to sell beer and wine from the Alcohol Board of California back in 2017.

A Sonoma Cinemas employee noted on Facebook that one reason for the lower prices was to stay competitive with the prices charged by other lower-priced theaters like the Reading Cinema in Rohnert Park.

The theater complex, which is located at 2000 Siesta Way in the Fiesta Shopping Center, was built in 1994. Additional screens were added in 1998 and 2009, bringing the total from four to nine. In a 2009 remodel, the theater added all-stadium seating and all-digital projection and sound.

Cinema 9 is owned by David Corkill, who told the Index-Tribune in 2017 that he planned broad renovations to the property, including larger reclining seats with built-in tables.

Calls to Corkill about the status of those renovations were not returned by press time.
