Jazz guitar duo in concert at Sonoma Valley library

Django Shredders to perform on Jan. 26|

The Sonoma Valley Library presents guitar duo, Django Shredders, to tell the story of the Belgian jazz guitarist, Django Reinhardt. The free performance is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.

“The Life and Times of Django Reinhardt,” performed by Alex Ciavarelli and Rudy Marquez, brings exuberant energy coupled with virtuosity to the late master’s renderings of what has been dubbed “gypsy jazz.”

Ciavarelli and Marquez met as undergraduates in the jazz studies program at San Diego State University. Combining traditional gypsy and modern jazz, they keep one foot in the past and one in the present. With influences such as Bireli Lagrene, Andreas Oberg, Stochelo Rosenberg and, of course, Django Reinhardt, the duo presents a contemporary take on Gypsy Jazz.

The event is free and open to all. The library is located at 755 W. Napa St.
