Benefit concert will honor singer Shannon Scott.|

MusicWorks Sonoma returns to St. Francis Solano Catholic Church for a concert honoring singer Shannon Scott.

“Let Your Heart Sing Out” will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday Jan. 27 at St. Francis Solano Catholic Church, located at 369 Third St. W.

Shannon Scott has been performing for 45 years, first as a member of the Sonoma Valley Children’s Chorale. She has performed with the Chorale, Valley of the Moon Chamber Ensemble, Sonoma Song, Comfort and Joy and, recently, with MusicWorks Sonoma. In addition to her ensemble work she has performed in numerous recitals, served as costume director for school plays and community stage performances when not singing a lead role. As a result of these many activities - she has affectionately earned the title as Sonoma’s Songbird from her MusicWorks peers.

James Griewe serves as artistic director for MusicWorks, with Robert Hazelrigg as accompanist. Judy Coe of San Francisco and Carolyn Niehaus will be guest artists on flute. John Simon will be a guest accompanist for the jazz portions of the concert.

According to Griewe, the concert will be filled with spiritual, folk songs - every kind of music from Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass” to Frank Loesser’s “Slow Boat to China” to George Gershwin’s “Summertime.”

Donations can be made to support Scott as she prepares to leave Sonoma for Washington State to assist her family during a time of health need. For more information visit, MusicWorksSonoma.org.

Admission is free, with donations appreciated. The group donates all proceeds to local nonprofit organizations, and has raised more than $100,000 since its inception.
