Billy’s BBQ firing up again at Sonoma Cheese Factory

Get your bibs ready, Sonoma... the barbecue is back.|

Longtime Sonoma resident Billy Wroebel has brought his Billy’s BBQ talents to Sonoma Cheese Factory, a welcome return. Some locals tasted his ribs at early Sebastiani Winery Friday nights. Billy has done all sorts of things: from working at Long’s and as security for the Sonoma International Film Festival, to providing long-term care for a family member. He says he is a “Jack of all trades,” which seems to be true.

While the burger barbecuing continues at lunchtime at the Cheese Factory, Billy is there Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 7 p.m.

The menu changes every week. It might include kabobs of chicken and beef, peppers, onions and more, or straight forward chicken, beef, with lemon pepper or Jamaican Jerk marinades, and it all comes with potatoes, grilled pineapple, corn on the cob and watermelon, plus a glass of wine or a glass of draft beer.

We tasted the lemon pepper chicken, and it was tender and scrumptious. And the live music will change every week as well. $25 or $20 for locals. 5 to 7 p.m. 2 Spain St., Sonoma.

On Friday, July 27, the Sonoma International Film Festival recommends dining at Billy’s BBQ at Sonoma Cheese Factory before the screening of “Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World” on the influence of indigenous music on popular music, a huge winner at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Catch it at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art at 551 Broadway, Sonoma. Film at 7:15 p.m.
