Free Marvel marathon at Green Music Center

Comic book franchise replaces announced 'Star Wars' event|

The biggest heroes of the Marvel Universe will hit the big screen outside the Green Music Center's Weill Hall this weekend. The free marathon movie event features five installments of Marvel franchise favorites.

The Marvel movie marathon is replacing the canceled 'Star Wars' movie marathon originally scheduled for Aug. 26 and 27.

This is the first event of its kind at the Center at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park. The film marathon launches on Friday, Aug. 26. First up is 'Iron Man' at 6 p.m., followed by 'Ant-Man' at 8:15 p.m. The Saturday program starts at 3 p.m. with 'The Avengers,' followed by 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' at 5:30 p.m. and concluding with 'Captain America: Civil War' at 8 p.m.

Kathryn Stewart, associate director of communications for the Green Music Center, said, 'We have a great campus here and we want to be a go-to place for arts events for the community. Our goal is to get as much utilization out of this space as possible.'

The facility has a huge Jumbotron screen on the back of Weill Hall that enables excellent viewing even in broad daylight and plenty of lawn seating. Families can bring picnics and blankets.

'This is a great opportunity for us to get people who haven't been to the space yet to come experience the facility and the campus,' said Stewart. 'We hope to offer family-friendly events like this regularly.'
