An afternoon of ragtime at Sonoma Valley Library

Six musicians to perform free concerts as part of Wine Country Ragtime Festival|

Sonoma Valley Regional Library is hosting six ragtime musicians at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, as a part of the Wine County Ragtime Festival. The artists will perform, answer questions, and educate Sonomans about this unique American music genre.

Organizer John Patridge says, “This is going to be a lot of fun and definitely a family-friendly event. Kids love this kind of music.”

The line-up begins at 1 p.m. with Michael O’Brien. O’Brien is well known around the Bay Area as a performer, composer and accompanist.

At 1:30 p.m., Larisa Migachyov will perform. Migachyov is a Russian-born ragtime composer who premiered her first ragtime composition at the 2006 Scott Joplin Festival.

Maple Profant performs at 2 p.m. She is a jazz, boogie and blues pianist and vocalist, performing regularly in Northern California venues. Maple plays solo, in bands, on live radio, for theater and in the studio.

Sue Nigro will perform at 2:30 p.m. Nigro is one of the world’s few contrabassoon soloists. Nigro has played numerous recitals and solo shows in places such as Salzburg, Montevideo and Rome and throughout the United States.
