This post-fire year, the Sonoma County Fair has partnered with first responder agencies such as local fire and law-enforcement departments to showcase the theme, “Salute to Heroes.”

The annual event will be filled with tributes to fictional and factual heroes alike, through exhibits, contests, themed days and generous perks, making simply attending a symbolic pledge to the future in remembrance of the past.

“The fair at its core is a gathering place where we showcase all the wonderful things about our community,” said Sonoma County Event Center COO Kaitlyn Findley-Thorn. “Every year, the Fair challenges itself to find new ways to fulfill that mission… but this year, we challenged ourselves to find ways to showcase the true spirit of Sonoma County.”

Among the tributes is “Sonoma Spirit - A Gathering of First Responders and Community Support,” an exhibit featuring presentations by members of various agencies recounting their personal experiences with the October fires.

Monday, Aug. 6, and Tuesday, Aug. 7, are deemed “First Responder Days” at the fair. Lucky Supermarkets and KZST’s Brent Farris sponsor both days, providing free entry and a Ferris wheel ride to all first responders who can verify their professional position with an ID.

The Fair will be open every day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting Thursday, Aug. 2, and running through Aug. 12 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa. General admission is $15, Kids tickets are $7 and five and under are free.

During the pre-sale discount period, general admission drops to $12 and specialized purchases like season admission passes drop from $165 to $45; Combo passes, which cover admission and includes an unlimited rides wristband for any one day at the Fair, drops from $50 to $35; and rides wristband only drops from $35 to $25.

Pre-sale tickets are available before Aug. 1 at either SonomaCountyFair.com or the Fair Box Office located on Bennett Valley Road. Pre-sale tickets may also be purchased at Lucky Supermarkets or at La Morenita Markets on Sonoma Highway in Sonoma.
