Dunbar School’s annual fifth grade play production will be performed over Memorial Day weekend on the campus’s newly rebuilt stage under the oaks.

“We are all so grateful and proud to be able to mount a production this year, after the Nuns Fire last October wiped out the stage, costumes, props, sound equipment and our peace of mind,” said Shannon Lee who is co-producing the play with Alissa Pearce. “The kids and supportive adults have battled through to keep this tradition alive – please come out to show your love and support!”

This year the play is “The Deadwood Desperado” – a family-friendly melodrama complete with sound effects, costumes, slap-stick antics, a twisting plot line, villains, heroes, an orphan, several long-lost daughters, a spit-fire female saloon owner and lots of audience participation.

“Director Kate Kennedy really brings out the best from these kids, it’s an endearing tradition not to be missed,” said Lee. Sarah Teves is the assistant director.

Tickets are available at the door - $10 adult, $5 child, or $25 family package, as well as concessions. The “doors” open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 25, Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27. Bring low chairs and blankets for on-ground seating

“The wildfire took our stage, costumes, props, and sound equipment but not our community’s spirit,” said Lee. “You can burn us down but not out! Come celebrate with us.”
