Bill Lynch is adding another chapter to his career in publishing. “My Sonoma – Valley of the Moon” is a new book by the former publisher of the Index-Tribune, and Sonomans will have a chance to hear him read from and discuss the book at the Sonoma Community Center this coming Saturday.

After four decades of writing news stories and features about Sonoma, Lynch this time turns his attention to his own recollections of growing up in the Valley of the Moon.

Lynch was the fourth-generation editor of the newspaper, which was started by his great-grandfather in 1879. And while he says he is “not an historian,” and denies that “My Sonoma” is a history book, many of the names, incidents and locations will be familiar to readers.

“I spent many Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve celebrations dining with my great aunt and uncle in their Barracks residence,” he tells us. “I went goose hunting with August Sebastiani and grew up three doors from the winery I spent many afternoons visiting with David Bouverie at his ranch. I knew many of the people whose names are on local buildings and halls…”

Lynch will discuss the book on Saturday, May 12, at 2 p.m., in an event sponsored by the Sonoma Valley Historical Society. Admission is $5 general, free for members and local docents. The Sonoma Community Center is located at 276 E. Napa St.
