Sebastiani Winery launches its Friday night music series on May 4

The Sonoma Valley live music scene has opened up full throttle this week. We’ve seen the season premier of the farmers market this past Tuesday; and the new Friday Night Music series at Sebastiani Winery starts up this Friday. There are now many reasons to head out to enjoy the fresh air, and enjoy some fun and free live music.

The Sebastiani Friday Night Music Series has been going on for several years. The party runs from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday. Once a month, a bonus attraction is offered: “Food Truck Friday,” when different local food truck offering tasty, delicious foods is featured.

The schedule for the series was recently released. Dancing is obviously the order of the evening.

For the opening night of the series, the winery has chosen the Fabulous 45’s to get the crowd up and moving. The band features songs from the ‘60s through the ‘90s, all of them originally released on the 45 rpm record platform. Members of the band are Oscar and Kat Mooneyhan, vocals, guitars, and percussion; Dave Mckee, drums; Bob McBain, keyboard; Michael Lipuma, bass; and Jane Fosgreen , saxophone. McBain noted that “…it’s a beautiful room, and a wonderful setting.”

Three weeks down the road, on May 25, it’s the Poyntlyss Sistars turn to get everybody dancing. The Poyntlyss Sistars began their run as a band over 30 years ago, and have played the summer concerts the last three years. They like to keep the dance floor filled all evening long. They offer a delightfully entertaining show, complete with choreography and costume changes. The Sistars boast no less than six vocalists, and round out the sound with keyboards and saxophone. They cite the “enthusiastic audience and beautiful venue” as reasons that they love to play at Sebastiani. More details about the Sistars can be found at their website, www.psband.net. June 1 finds Acoustic Soul plugged in and jammin.’ Fred and Jackie Holzhauer have been playing their brand of bluesy, soulful rock for many years now. Fred’s tasty Telecaster sound complements Jackie’s recognizable Philly-soaked vocals perfectly. They often bring in some outside musicians for more of a driving, dancing sound, and tonight will be no different.

Later in the series, T-Luke and the Tight Suits and the Jami Jamison Band promise a continuation of the tasting room dance party.

People are encouraged to arrive at bit early, as the lawn area fills up quickly. Outside the tasting room, there are first-come, first-served picnic tables. No outside alcohol is allowed, but dogs are welcome. Ample parking is available and the event is wheelchair accessible. Inside the tasting room, wines by the glass or by the bottle are available for purchase. And, perhaps most importantly, enjoyment is the name of the game.
