Vox Populi Choir to perform in landmarks benefit

Sonoma’s rock & roll choir to perform on May 7, 12 and 20|

Vox Populi, the self-described Rock & Roll Choir, will present its spring concert, “Abbey Road and Best of Paul Simon,” three times this spring, including at 7:30 p.m. the Sebastiani Theatre on Monday, May 7; at Sonoma Valley Woman’s Club at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12; and at Reel Fish Shop & Grill on Sunday, May 20, with brunch offered at noon and concert starting at 1 p.m.

The shows will benefit the Sebastiani Theatre and the Sonoma Women’s Club. Both will use funds to maintain and upgrade their historic buildings.

The concert will feature choral versions of Beatles and Paul Simon songs.

The 60-person choir, led by local musician Mark Dennis, will have live accompaniment by Mark Wilson and Mario Ramirez of long-running local band Plan Be.

The set list will include songs such as “Something,” “Here Comes the Sun” and “Come Together” from “Abbey Road,” plus “The Sound of Silence,” “Graceland” and “Still Crazy After All These Years” by Paul Simon.

Vox Populi has been entertaining sell-out crowds since 2008.

The group sings complex four-part harmonies with original arrangements for every song.

The choir includes some of the best voices of Sonoma’s shop owners, small-business people, accountants, nurses, artists, real-estate agents and more.

Mark Dennis founded Vox Populi when a friend convinced him that “if you form it, they will come.” “Singing harmony with a group of friends is the second best thing on the planet,” jokes Dennis.

Come and unwind with a glass of wine (available for purchase at each show), enjoy an engaging experience with Vox Populi and support the historic Sebastiani Theatre and the Sonoma Woman’s Club.

Tickets are on sale at the Sebastiani Theatre at 996-9756, and Tiddlewinks, 115 E. Napa St., at 939-6933. Tickets are $18, check or cash only.

Vox Populi is a community choir that meets every Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 252 W. Spain St. For more information, visit voxpopsonoma.com.
