Author and adventurer Dean Rosnau will be in town next week for a book presentation at Crescent Montessori School. In his recent memoir, “The Shortest Straw,” he recounts gripping and moving experiences from his 40-plus years of rock climbing and 33 years of search and rescue work.

The Crescent Montessori connection is that Rosnau led the team which rescued Sonomans Greg Silvi, Chris Benziger and Adam Bloom after a near-death avalanche while they were backcountry skiing in Mt. Dana in 1998. This began a lifelong friendship with Rosnau. The rescue is chronicled in the book. Rosnau’s memoir concludes with an open missing person case that he is still working on in the Ritter Range, near Mammoth. The author talk is at Sonoma Community Center at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28.

Online tickets are $5 per person at Brown Paper Tickets. Refreshments will be available.
