Justin-Siena presents ‘Guys and Dolls’

A dozen local students are in the production|

Just over the hill in Napa, almost a dozen Sonoma students are involved in the Justin-Siena High School production of “Guys and Dolls.”

The Sonoma Valley students involved with the production include juniors Julia Lokey Rose McGovern, Shawnee Wallace and Olivia Boles; sophomores Maxine Berlange, Matthew Baumann, Morgan Dalcamo, Cielo Guerrero, Sidney Horne, Mia Johnson and Kevyn Piper O’Neill; and freshman Kaitlin O’Neill.

With an ensemble cast of nearly 80 performers and set around the New York City of Damon Runyon – upon whose stories “Guys and Dolls” is based – the romantic comedy takes the audience from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of the Big Apple.

Set in Depression-era Times Square, gambler Nathan Detroit has few options for the location of his big craps game. Needing $1,000 to pay a garage owner to host the game, Nathan bets Sky Masterson that Sky cannot get the church-going Sarah Brown out on a date. Despite some resistance, Sky negotiates a date with her in exchange for bringing a dozen new converts to her congregation. Meanwhile, Nathan’s longtime fiancée, Adelaide, wants him to marry her.

The show is directed by James Thomas Bailey, Justin-Siena’s director of theatre arts. Choreographer Lisa Clark Schmeling and music director Vivian Bayubay McLaughlin round out the production team.

The show runs at Napa Valley Performing Arts Center in Yountville on Friday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 25 at 2 p.m.
