Libros de Artista talks and workshop at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art
Simon Blattner, curator of the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art’s current “Libros de Artista” exhibit will be at the museum at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, and again on Sunday, March 11, for an in-depth discussion of several of the books in the exhibition. The program is billed as a “walk-and-talk” through the galleries, where attendees will have the chance to ask questions and learn more about what goes into making an artist’s books. The talks are free with museum admission ($10 general).
On Saturday, Feb 24, the museum is offering a visiting artist workshop with Rhiannon Alpers. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Alpers will lead an exploration of the textures and colors of Mexican “amate” paper, a bark material in use for over 3,000 years of tradition.
This one-day workshop for beginning and intermediate levels is inspired by the concurrent exhibition “Libros de Artista,” and a love of paper.
Students will create an amate paper book in the workshop.
