Sonoma’s Witchie Poo is on!

Sebastiani to celebrate 38th year of the Halloween fun|

The Witchie Poo Players will present their 38th annual Halloween Extravaganza stage show, the 2017 “Witch Poo Halloween Extravaganza – Witchie Poo & Lemmy in the Summer of Love” in four weekend matinees show at 2 p.m., on Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29, at the Sebastiani Theatre, 476 First St. E. This year’s program features performances by a cast of more than 60-plus Witchie Poo Players, ages 4 years and up.

The audience is invited to come in costume to draw for prizes. The show is a tour back through time to the ’60s and the Summer of Love with Witchie Poo and her infamous sidekick, Lemmy. The Cruise Brothers, Jake and Elwood (Andrew Spear and Bob Gossett) are up to their usual plot-crushing shenanigans and Witchie Poo promises a great karaoke of “Lord, Won’t You Buy Me a Mercedes Broom.”

In addition to Lemmy and Poo, the Witchie Poo Players will be performing their traditional Halloween Medley, “This is Halloween” along with some tap and hiphop dance numbers. Headliner Roger Rhoten, the Magic Man, will perform magic; and Gumby Luis Contreras and Sarah Summers will make guest appearances.

“Don’t miss this year’s Halloween Extravaganza’s fantastic new black light number choreographed along with other fantastic tap numbers by the beautiful and visionary Amee Alioto to the remix of ‘Ghostbusters’” said Rhoten.

At 1:30 p.m. there will be pre-show performances by The Sebastiani Theatre Band, also known as “The Poo Orchestra,” providing entertainment with drummer, “Animal” (Rod Leeburg), the familiar, hairy, bright yellow monster, who will add his thumping and chiming percussive elements to the melee, along with the popular Bob Gossett on guitar, and keyboardist Cat Austin of ETC.

“This medley of Halloween mischief and magic is marvelous fun for the whole family,” says Rhoten. “The myriads of famous Witchie Poo Players – tiny hip hopping and tap dancing monsters and ghoulies – guarantee that this special Halloween event will be all treat and no trick as they present with outrageous Halloween exuberance such favorites as “There’s A Witch Under My Bed,” “The Witchie Poo Player Medley,” “This is Halloween” and others.”

Many of these Halloween tunes, written by musician Bob Gossett, have been sung though the ages at this time of year by multiple generations of Witchie Poo Players, the first of whom are now in their near-forties. In keeping with tradition, “Thriller,” performed by The Witchie Poo Players, will be the grand finale.

The community is also invited to view the “spook-tacular” aura of Halloween decorations at the Sebastiani Theatre. which is now “in full costume.”
