Reed Martin pops up in Sonoma with a new book

‘Pop Up Shakespeare’ provides classic entertainment|

Hometown comedian Reed Martin will be in Sonoma at Readers Books at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12 to read from his new book, “Pop-Up Shakespeare.”

Martin, is one of the founding members of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, and is married to Jane Martin of the Sonoma Valley High School drama department.

Martin has distilled Shakespeare into a novel format – the pop-up book.

“This intricately produced book includes Shakespeare’s complete works,” says Rosie Lee of Readers’ Books. “Whether you are a Shakespeare fan, looking to entice kids into the love of the Bard, or simply just looking to have a great evening, you won’t want to miss this.”

Kirkus Reviews describes “Pop-Up Shakespeare” as, “a fastbreak literary tour… concise and hilarious!”

Publisher’s Weekly calls it, “A delightfully irreverent tour of (Shakespeare’s) work, assisted by pop-ups, flaps, and Maizels’s equally playful cartooning… it’s hard to imagine a more entertaining way to get a sense of what these classics are about.”

The book was released on Sept. 7 in the UK, and in the U.S. on Oct. 3.
