Jim Silverman at Readers’ Books on Aug. 17

Local historian to launch ‘On this day in California history’|

Storyteller, local historian and retired librarian, Jim Silverman will be at Readers’ Books to launch his latest book “On this Day in California History” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17. Using the calendar as a starting point Silverman has found something historically interesting for every day of the year.

Did you know that on Feb. 21, 1937 in San Diego Waldo Waterman invented one of the first operational flying cars? And on April Fool’s Day in 1974 Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne started Apple Inc.

The book will appeal to all manner of history buffs - from kids through adults – with its anecdotal accounts of the characters and incidents that make California both unique and unforgettable.

Silverman backed into California history through a fascination with children’s books and children’s history, bibliography and storytelling. This unlikely blend of passions is part of what’s behind “On This Day in California History.”
