‘Rhythm’ is gonna get you!

Transcendence Theatre's new production features songs of Sondheim, Bernstein and ?Gershwins|

“I got rhythm!” George and Ira Gershwin famously announced some 80-plus years ago in the “golden age” of jazz – and this month, Transcendence Theatre Company is showing they’ve got a bit of rhythm themselves.

“Fascinating Rhythm” is Transcendence’s new production, and the company is describing it as “a kaleidoscope of music and dance.” Performances will take place Aug. 4 to 6, 11 to 13 and 17 to 20 in the winery ruins at Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen.

The show will include “contemporary music to Broadway and everything in between” to “celebrate the diversity of rhythm and life,” according to theater company press materials. The production will feature songs from the Gershwins, songwriting team Kander and Ebb, Stephen Sondheim, Billy Joel and Leonard Bernstein. According to Transcendence, the cast will “weave together stories of different life paths creating a stunning tapestry, rich with familiar tunes and new songs performed in a fresh and fascinating way.”

Jack London State Historic Park is at 2400 London Ranch Road in Glen Ellen. Pre-show picnics begin at 5 p.m.; shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $45 to $149 and are on sale at www.BestNightEver.org. $5 of every ticket sold benefits Jack London State Historic Park.
